Why Civilian Playbook Exists

Our Mission

Civilian Playbook exists to close the readiness gap between military service and civilian life. We believe every service member deserves a structured, personalized transition plan — not a binder of pamphlets handed out at a mandatory briefing.

Our platform measures readiness across six critical dimensions — financial preparedness, career planning, healthcare continuity, housing stability, education benefits, and family support — then delivers a tailored two-year action plan timed to each individual's separation date.

We don't replace TAP. We fill the gaps TAP leaves behind.

The Problem We're Solving

Every year, roughly 200,000 service members separate from the U.S. military. Research consistently shows that most are underprepared in at least three of six critical transition areas. The consequences are real: unemployment, financial distress, healthcare lapses, housing instability, and strained family relationships.

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides a valuable foundation, but it's a one-size-fits-all classroom experience delivered in a compressed timeframe. Service members leave with a certificate of completion — but rarely with a personalized, actionable plan that addresses their specific gaps.

Civilian Playbook was built to change that. By combining a diagnostic assessment with long-term structured follow-up, we help service members identify exactly where they need to focus and stay on track through the full two-year transition window.

Founder's Story

Civilian Playbook was created by Jamie DeBole, Executive Vice President at American Fidelity Life Insurance — a company with a rich history of serving the military community.

Jamie is not a veteran. He studied Peace, War, and Defense at the University of North Carolina, and after graduation moved to Shanghai for a year to understand firsthand how an emerging China would shape American security. That instinct — go where the problem is, learn what others only read about, then build something with what you learned — has defined his career.

He saw veterans making irreversible financial, insurance, and career decisions with incomplete information and no centralized plan. The transition system wasn't broken because nobody cared. It was broken because nobody had built the connective tissue between veterans and the resources that already exist.

That's what Civilian Playbook is. Not another resource. The plan that connects you to the right ones, in the right order, at the right time.
